€30 Million Crash: How a Slot Bug Made Players Rich and Stumped the Gambling Industry
On a Saturday night, Romanian gambling operator Superbet faced a situation that would go down in industry history. Due to a critical glitch in the popular Fire Blaze Red Wizard slot, developed by the Playtech giant, the company lost the equivalent of two years of net profit - more than €30 million.
The incident began when players discovered an anomaly: every bet in the game brought a guaranteed win. The news about the "broken" slot instantly spread across gambling communities. Screenshots of incredible winnings appeared on a local forum, and from there the information rolled like an avalanche through closed chats in WhatsApp, Telegram and Facebook groups.
Despite the modest maximum bet of 1 Romanian leu (about €0.20), the most enterprising users were able to accumulate impressive amounts in their accounts. Some simply activated the auto spins feature and left the game running all night, while others streamed live, demonstrating how the balance was growing exponentially before their eyes. One such streamer showed how his initial €20 turned into €4,000 in just an evening.
Initially, few people believed in the possibility of receiving this money. The standard practice of casinos and their rules state that any winnings resulting from a technical glitch are canceled. Superbet initially acted according to the protocol: closer to midnight, having discovered a problem, the operator blocked about 7,500 accounts that showed the most activity.
However, the very next morning, the unthinkable happened. The company sent out notifications to customers that their accounts were unfrozen, and all winnings were available for withdrawal. Superbet has announced that it will make all payouts in full.
The motives for such an unprecedented step remain the subject of heated discussions. If it was a marketing ploy, then its cost turned out to be prohibitive, because €30 million is a colossal amount for any company. There was also a conspiracy theory, according to which the operator could be involved in the incident in order to optimize tax payments.
Playtech, the developer of the slot, hastened to distance itself from the scandal. In an official statement, the provider assured that at the time of the incident, all its games were functioning correctly, hinting at problems on the operator's side. Superbet itself classified the incident as a "technical failure", the exact causes of which are still being investigated.
This case was a wake-up call for the entire industry. The problem of liability for software errors and vulnerabilities in the software of game providers is becoming more acute and becoming widespread. Today, more than ever, developers need to prioritize the safety and reliability of their products, because the price of one mistake, as practice has shown, can be in the tens of millions.

- LicorBurOct 9, 2025Honestly, I don’t buy into this kind of “generosity.” €30 million – that’s the budget of a small city. Most likely some sneaky tax scheme or money laundering. Nobody just gives away that kind of money.
kubinstatOct 9, 2025Oh come on, conspiracy theorists! Superbet are absolute legends, they saved face and their rep. Now their loyalty score is like +100500. This is the most expensive and the most effective ad campaign in gambling history! Playtech, of course, totally screwed up, but they dodged the topic pretty smoothly.- snow8whiteOct 9, 2025I read about this on a Romanian forum. Some guy wrote that he turned €20 into 4k, and then his buddy also managed to jump in and made a few thousand too. He said the cashout went through without issues, they just asked him to redo verification. I’m honestly shocked. Usually a casino chokes over $100, and here they’re paying out sums like this… Respect to them, but the whole situation is really weird. Software security must be in the gutter if such bugs are even possible.
