UK Operators in the Crosshairs: Blocking of Positive Players Revealed

The story about the British regulator UKGC continues. In July 2025, the authorities decided to arrange a total checkup: they took a sample of 15 million accounts, to which local operators limited the game at different times.

The figures turned out to be as eloquent as possible

At first glance, everything is fine: only 4.3% of players have received some kind of sanctions, it seems to be tolerable. But then the fun begins. Almost half of these people - more precisely, 46.8% - were in the black at the time of the restrictions.

That is, the real picture is as follows: casinos are more likely to strangle those who beat the system. If you look at the entire pool of 15 million, about a quarter of the players were winners. But it is they who are most often pruned.

"Did you go too far? Go rest."

The logic of operators is simple: it is better to keep too successful customers, hiding behind "responsible gambling". A temporary ban or limit — and now you no longer withdraw profit in batches, but sit on pause.

One of the most favorite tools of British casinos is to reduce the maximum bet. More than half of the limited accounts (about 60%) got just that: you can spin, but not higher than 10% of the usual maximum.

And what did the regulator say?

The head of the UKGC, Andrew Rhodes, diplomatically noted: yes, business has the right to manage its risks as it sees fit. And the regulator, they say, cannot tell operators where to set boundaries.

But the second part of the speech is less friendly. The authorities are seriously considering options to make the process of restrictions transparent and understandable. And the reason is simple: those who have been cut off from oxygen go offshore. And there, as we know, taxes remain abroad.

The UKGC tightened the screws

In fact, it turned out like this: statistics caught operators in election blocking, and it will no longer be possible to excuse yourself here. Formally, everything is "for the sake of taking care of the players", but in fact it turns out that they interfere with the winners.

If this trend continues, the market may lose active and solvent players. This means that part of the money will go past the tax system. But the British regulator will definitely not allow this.
